Ashland Elected Officials

Mayor and Commissioners

The City of Ashland, KY operates under a City Manager form of government. In this form of government, the citizens elect a Mayor and four Commissioners to serve on the Board of Commissioners. The Board of Commissioners then appoints a City Manager who holds the position of chief administrative officer for the city. This individual is a professional who is employed by the city to run the operational affairs of the city on a day-to-day basis. The Board is voted into office by non-partisan elections and consists of a mayor, who is elected for a term of four years, and four commissioners, who serve two years each. It is responsible for passing ordinances, adopting the budget, appointing committees, and employee appointment and termination.

Catlettsburg, Kentucky, is organized as a home rule-class city and is the county seat of Boyd County. The city is governed by a City Council, which holds open meetings, including both regular and special sessions. Regular meetings are held on the third Tuesday of each month at the Senior Citizens Building. The city also has a City Clerk who manages vital records, elections, and official city documents.
